Babylon Elementary School (BES) recently took part in Global School Play Day. The school joined over 2.1 million students from 81 nations in celebrating the importance of unstructured play for children’s development. The event highlighted the critical role of play in fostering cognitive, social, and emotional skills, as well as 21st-century competencies like problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity.
Teachers at BES guided the event, encouraging students to explore, create, and interact through unstructured play. They provided families with activity suggestions and safety guidelines to ensure a fun and enriching experience for all students.
Students wore comfortable clothing for active play, brought water bottles to stay hydrated, and shared their favorite labeled, school-appropriate toys or games with classmates.
“At Babylon Elementary School we remain committed to the value of play in education, using Global School Play Day as an opportunity to enhance students’ learning experiences and overall well-being,” said Principal Thomas Keogh. “We hope our parents, students and educators enjoyed taking part in this special opportunity.”
