School Bus Safety Rules
Riding the school bus is a privilege, and all students are expected to follow the rules below to ensure a safe, respectful, and efficient transportation environment.
Before the Bus Comes
- Wait calmly and safely away from the road.
- Respect people’s property
- Be ready when the bus arrives.
- Weather and traffic may cause delays so please be mindful that the bus may not be on time.
Getting on the Bus
- Wait for the bus to stop completely.
- Walk—don’t run—to the bus.
- Board in an orderly manner
While Riding the Bus
- Find a seat quickly and stay seated while the bus is moving.
- Keep the aisle clear so everyone can move safely.
- Talk quietly. Loud noise can distract the driver.
- Keep your hands, feet, and belongings to yourself and inside the bus.
- No eating or drinking on the bus.
- Treat the bus and its equipment with care.
- Always follow the driver’s instructions—they help keep everyone safe.
Safety and Emergency Rules
- Do not touch emergency exits unless the driver tells you to or in an actual emergency.
- Tell the driver if you see something unsafe or unusual on or around the bus.
- No smoking, vaping, alcohol, or drugs on the bus—ever.
Getting Off the Bus
- Stay seated until the bus stops completely.
- Walk off the bus safely and calmly.
- If you need to cross the street, wait for the driver’s signal, then cross in front of the bus where the driver can see you.
Emergency Situations
- Listen carefully to the driver and follow instructions.
- Stay calm and move the way you have been taught for safety.
- Students should not leave the bus or the emergency site unless directed by the driver or other authorized authority.
